What a Schengen application really costs.

The embassy fee is fixed EU-wide. What varies is the visa application centre charge and your insurance — so the honest number is a range, not a figure.

The €90 is charged in rupees at the consulate rate on the day, so the figure moves through the year. Fees are non-refundable if the application is refused.

The cascade regime

One good application can buy you five years of Europe.

Since 18 April 2024 the European Commission applies a more favourable arrangement to Indian nationals. Instead of judging each trip from scratch, consulates reward a clean record with progressively longer multiple-entry visas. Most Surat applicants have never heard of it, and accept a single-entry visa they did not have to accept.

One thing the cascade does not change: the 90-days-in-any-180-days limit still applies, however long your visa is valid. And approval is never automatic — consulate choice, insurance wording and financial consistency still decide the outcome.
